THE work done at Ross Golf Club during the past two years by head professional Tim Hall and his 'School of Golf' team is producing some excellent results.

Eleven-year-old Harry Griffiths, who lives in Ledbury and is a pupil at Colwall Primary School, has been showing the potential to enjoy a highly promising future in the game.

Harry joined the Ross Junior Academy 12 months ago and has been largely in the care of assistant professional Oli Leett and the focus on specific practice drills and skills tests is already showing its worth.

Harry's return of 43 points saw him top the score-sheet at the Shirehampton Park GC Junior Stableford Open earning him selection for a Gloucestershire County Academy training event on Thornbury Golf Club's 18 holes par 3 Severn View Course where he carded an outstanding 65 stableford points total to finish runner-up, only just missing out on the top spot on count-back.

Another 11-year-old, Abbie Bishop, a pupil at Picklenash Primary School in Newent, has made equally impressive progress.

She was selected with Harry Griffiths to join the County's Academy training event at the Thornbury Course where her 64 Stableford points made her the runner-up in the girls' division.

The 13th hole proved lucky for Abbie as she also collected the prize for being 'nearest the pin' there.

She then took part a few days in two of Gloucestershire County Golf Partnership First 4 Golf Tournaments again held at the Thornbury Golf Club.

On the Saturday, her nett 31 score made her the No I performer in her age group and the following day her gross 47 score won her the best girl performer in her age group.

Ten-year-old Timmy Fycun, a Bridstow Primary School pupil, scoring 42 stableford points at the First 4 Golf event at Thornbury GC in the day's nine-hole boys' competition which made him the No 1 performer in his age group.

"It is a privilege to see so many keen youngsters testing themselves in tournament conditions, playing well and in a great spirit and quickly giving themselves opportunities to be the future of golf," said Tim Hall.
