ROSS-on-Wye Golf Club's professional Tim Hall has carried off a top award to recognise his work at the south Herefordshire club over the past two years.

The 'Tim Hall School of Golf', in which Hall's three assistant professionals Oli Leett, Paul Finch and James Dobbs are all actively involved, has been a big success at Ross and his efforts were recognised at the Majestic Hotel in Harrogate when Foremost Buying Group, who have more than 1,100 golf professionals in their care, names him their number one golf professional of 2013.

Hall's reward was to be included, along with team-mates from Ireland, Scotland, Australia and Singapore, to represent England in a 10-man international team to take on a USA team for the Oakley Skull Cup in a two-day Ryder Cup type event at the Gainey Ranch Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.

After the first day's fourballs and foursomes matches, the International team held a 6-4 advantage, to which Hall and his playing partner Stuart Williamson had contributed a point.

In the final day's singles, Hall was drawn against Nate Olivio, winner of the 2013 Californian State Classic and turned in a creditable display before Olivio fire three straight birdies to earn a 3 and 2 win.

But the celebrations ultimately belonged to Hall, who returned with a special edition Oakley custom made Scotty Cameron Putter after the International team clinched a 10.5-9.5 win.

Hall was then able to spend the next four days as a guest of the sponsors to enjoy the PGA Phoenix Golf Open.

The Ross pros-shop team are now looking forward to June when they will open a Performance Lab Golf Simulator represented by a swing studio, putting studio and repair centre at the course.
