BRIAN Jones was the winner of an 18-hole stableford competition in a three-day Cancer Research charity golf tournament at Brampton Golf Course, near Madley.

Jones, of Ewyas Harold, racked up 37 points to win the competition which was one of four sections to the tournament.

A nine-hole stableford was won by Bob Williams from Hereford with 21 points while a nearest the pin on the ninth hole was won by John Gaskill from Kidderminster.

The tournament was brought to a close with a Ryder Cup-type, match play competition between Brampton members, captained by Dougie Stokes, and Cleobury Mortimer members, captained by John Gaskill, which was won by Brampton.

The competition was organised by John and Angie Gaskill, who have now raised more than £13,000 for cancer research.

“Many thanks go to Doug and Dorothy Stokes and their two sons James and Neil who set the course up so well,” said Angie. “I would also like to thank the proprietors of Poston Mill Caravan Park who also donated to the funds raised.”

The tournament, which John and Angie hope to repeat on an annual basis, raised £609 for the charity.
