FIFTEEN players contested the Grove Golf Centre Junior Club Championship with George Barker’s nett 21 earning him the top prize.

Caitlin Downes won the girls’ prize with five-year-old Jack Ellis, Calum Roe and Henry Morris sharing the four-hole event.

Badger nine-hole competition, irons only: 1 Jayne Lewis 16 pts, 2 Dorothy Harris 14. Gwynne Morgan regained the Ross GC Peter Carton-Kelly Cup as club seniors’ champion after beating Tim Rigden in a play-off.

The pair had tied on a creditable gross medal score of 76 when the championship was held last month but Morgan retained his form to shoot a 78 which enabled him to regain the trophy which he had won in 2005 and 2010.

Rigden, who scored a gross 83 in the play-off, won the Marsh-Allen Trophy for the best nett score in the original competition.

Result: 1 Luke Thomas (Pontypridd) 72+70=142, 2 Jack Bush (Morlais Castle) 73+70=143, 3 Richard Taylor (Llanwern) 73+ 71=144. Cradoc champion Nathan Perks returned 75+71=146 to finish a creditable sixth.

The seniors’ team beat Belmont 5-3 with the winning pairs being John Massey and Clive Price (2 and 1), Roger Thornhill and Mike Tom (2 and 1), Derek Lloyd and Phil Smith (3 and 2), Colin Rosser and Roy Alp (4 and 3) and Dave Matthews and Peter Childs (5 and 3).
