BURGHILL Valley’s Dave Thomas used home knowledge to his advantage to win the club’s Seniors’ Open Competition.

Thomas carded 42 points to beat his nearest rival by just one point.

Division One: 1 John Toman (Marriott St Pierre) 40 points, 2 Nigel Howard (Burghill) 39, 3 G Glover (Kington) 37.

Division Two: 1 Michael Baird (The Worcestershire) 41 points, 2 Graham Thurgood (Burghill) 41, 3 Peter Handscomb (Burghill) 40.

Division Three: 1 Peter Haddock (Burghill) 40 points, 2 Terry Bottomley (Burghill) 38, 3 Ron Goodall (Burghill) 36 .

Meanwhile, Ron Price scored a hole-in-one on the third to help his team secure third place in a team stableford.

Guy Amos, Brian Dix, Peter Haddock and Charlie McInnes took first place with 137 points.

Roy Hemming and Len Lewis were part of the second-placed team with 136.

Brian Blower, Adrian Lunt, Ron Price and Keith Shaw, with 134, were third.

DIRECTOR Dave Preedy scored the top prize in Hereford United Football Club’s annual charity golf day at Belmont Golf Club.

Preedy triumphed on the day and was rewarded with a visit to the impressive Celtic Manor course in Newport.

Former manager Colin Addison was among those who took part in the event which raised £1,000 towards Hereford United’s Youth Programme.

Joe Lemar, golf co-ordinator at Belmont, said: “It was a great day for all involved and the course was in a fantastic condition.

“As a former youth team player, the £1,000 will support the team in their development.”

THE Herefordshire Golf Club are offering a free membership trial for anyone taking part in one of their ‘Get into Golf’ coaching schemes.

They are hosting a number of group lessons for would-be golfers over the summer months.

The groups will be limited to just six players with the courses lasting four weeks.

JOE Irvine finished three-up to be crowned the winner in Ross-on-Wye Golf Club’s Bradley Court Cup.

Steve Price, Shaun Sturge and Neil Winter were the runners-up, followed by George Burnett, Barry Robbins and Michael Davies.

Meanwhile, 16-year-old Niall Powell has been appointed as the new Ross Juniors’ captain.

Niall has only recently joined the Gorsley-based club but is a six-handicapper and has represented the club’s men’s ‘A’ team.

BURGHILL Valley duo Becky Lloyd and Paul Moses have clinched the Herefordshire County Mixed Championship title at Kington Golf Club.

The Burghill duo were in top form and sealed the crown after firing a gross 78.

Kington’s Angela Wilkes and Ross Moore also did well and took the runners-up spot after shooting 83.

The Herefordshire pairing of Karen and Roger Darby, with 84, finished in third place.

Kington duo Lorraine Bourne and Tony House tasted success in the nett competition, carding 80-13-67.

The Herefordshire’s Marie and Doug Parry, with 89-17-72, were runners-up and Kington’s Ruth and Kelvin Alexander, with 87-14.5-72.5, took third place.
