SAM Archer-Plane said it was surreal to score his first goal in senior football as he helped Westfields see off Shepshed Dynamo 5-4 in a pulsating Midland Football League Premier Division match.

The defender – who played at centre-back alongside Sam Rawlings – was on hand to prod the ball over the line to put Westfields 2-1 up.

And it was Rawlings who grabbed the decisive winner two minutes from time.

"It was just me and Sam Rawlings who hadn't scored for Westfields, so for both of to score in the same game was quite surreal," said Archer-Plane.

"Both teams took their chances and we had a lot of the play.

"It was quite a game and it was a good match to be involved in."

Archer-Plane added that he doesn't mind filling in at centre-back.

"I played there quite a bit when I was younger and I quite enjoy it," he said.

"The manager, Sean Edwards, said he can see me playing there quite a bit in the future and he's comfortable putting me there.

"I'm happy to play there if it helps the team, but I'm also more than happy to be on the left."

Westfields host Loughborough University tomorrow night before going to third-placed Lye Town on Saturday.

"They are two massive games," added Archer-Plane.

"We need to win on Wednesday to give us a bit of momentum going to Lye.

"That one is a really big game because we need to beat teams at the top.

"We won't win the league now and to finish second looks a tall order, so our aim is to stay in the top four or five."

Ben Hayes opened the scoring for Westfields in the eighth minute before Adam Hohn equalised shortly afterwards.

Archer-Plane restored Westfields' advantage in the 25th minute before Aidan Thomas scored a fine individual goal after the break to make it 3-1.

However, Shepshed mounted a lot of pressure on the Westfields' defence and scored three goals in the space of 15 minutes; Michael Reeve netting twice and Jake Betts once.

Keiron Blackburn then produced a a fine save to deny the home side scoring again before another excellent Thomas goal brought the tie level with five minutes to go.

And Rawlings won the match when he raced in to head home at the far post.
