PEGASUS Juniors manager Mick Panniers is confident his team can give county rivals Wellington a good game this weekend, despite their precarious position in West Midlands (Regional) League Premier Division.

Panniers' side are third-from-bottom in the division and go into the game on the back of a 9-0 drubbing at Wolverhampton Casuals.

But Pegasus can take heart from their recent HFA County Challenge Cup match against Wellington when Gary Stevens' side needed an 87th minute penalty from Paul Jones to win the game.

"They are a decent side with some good players, but I'm confident we can give them a real good game," said Panniers.

"We played really well in the cup game and managed to nullify them.

"We should also have a few players back on Saturday, like Cory Hyde.

"So I'm looking forward to the game."

Panniers' felt that last Saturday's drubbing didn't tell the whole story.

"It was a strange game because they weren't that great a side," he said.

"Because we lost 9-0, you would think we lost against a very good side, but we didn't.

"Yes, we were poor in the first half, but created more chances than we had in the previous four games.

"We have actually played worse, but we just didn't get going in the first half.

"We kept attacking and gave it a go, so if anything we were too open.

"We had quite a young side out and were very expansive."

Wellington go into the game on the back of two poor home defeats, with their latest one being a 3-1 reverse against Smethwick.

"They were better on the day and we didn't play any football at all," conceded Stevens.

"We seem to have lost the spark that we had earlier in the season.

"It doesn't help losing players, but we still had a good enough team to win the game.

"Our goalkeeper Matt Apperley aggravated an injury, but I probably shouldn't have played him, so that was my fault."

Following the Pegasus game, Wellington have another local fixture in the shape of Hereford Lads Club next Wednesday.

"They are two difficult fixtures, but if we get a positive result against Pegasus then the players will be buoyant going into the Lads Club game," added Stevens.

Lads Club – who beat Wellington Amateurs 3-1 last Saturday – host Dudley Sports this weekend.

In Division One, Bromyard Town lost 3-0 to Old Wulfrunians.
