NEW Kington Town manager Sam Bowen is confident he has got something to work with as he looks to keep the team in West Midlands (Regional) League Division One.

The former Leominster Town boss has replaced Stuart Jones as manager of the Mill Street outfit after playing some games for the reserves and Colts.

His son Harry also started playing for the reserves and his dad immediately drafted him into the first team for last Saturday's game against Bustleholme.

However, Kington – who are joint bottom of the division with only six points to their name from 13 games – lost 3-1.

This Saturday, Kington host fellow Herefordshire side Bromyard Town looking to avenge their defeat earlier in the season when they let a two-goal lead slip.

Following that, the Yellows are home to bottom side Willenhall Town on November 25.

"It was an eye opener for me to see what we're up against, but I'm quite happy with the base I've got and there's lots to work on," said Bowen, who has brought in Lucas Leach from Leominster, Matt Watkins from Ludlow and Ashley Griffiths from Malvern Vale.

"We've just got to install some belief in them because the team are lacking in a bit of confidence.

"But Ryan Nicholas and Sam Pearson played their first 90 minutes for a long time and Brian Dyer played for the first time in six weeks.

"I'm confident we can get out of the relegation battle."

Bowen said that, even though his side lost 3-1 on Saturday, there were still plenty of positives to take.

"We should have won the game," said Bowen.

"We had 19 shots on goal with eight on target.

"But because they are in a habit of losing games, I think the players were a little bit scared and lacking in confidence.

"But it will come."

Bowen said he took on the job because it appealed to him.

"It's a lovely set-up at Kington and it's a proper club," said Bowen.

"People really care about it and it's like it's their baby.

"If we can stay in this league, it will be a massive achievement and I will be looking to instil my beliefs and principles.

"We have to stay up because I don't want to get relegated.

"The next two games are massive though because we've then got some tough games."

Bromyard go into the game on the back of a 4-0 reverse at Gornal Athletic.
