OUTGOING manager Derek Williams believes Wellington can mount a promotion challenge next season.

Williams has decided to step down to make way for Gary Stevens following two spells as manager.

Wellington finished fifth in West Midlands (Regional) League Premier Division – equalling their highest ever finish.

"I think they can definitely challenge for it, but it depends who Gary brings in," said Williams.

"We had a really good season and it was good to watch.

"Beating Malvern was a brilliant way to finish because they were going for second."

Williams added that it was time for a change at Wellington.

"I wasn't going to do this season but I decided to carry on," said Williams.

"I did 10 seasons, seven in one spell and then I came back.

"Before that, I did five years as under-18s manager and did every team in the kids league.

"But it's time to now have a break and assess things.

"I will still come and watch though and am still part of the committee."

Two goals from Matt Williams in the first half secured the 2-0 win for Wellington at Malvern,

The villagers finished four places above Pegasus Juniors and Williams said the two clubs have a nice rivalry.

"It's always the first result we look for," said Williams.

Pegasus finished their campaign with a 1-0 win at Smethwick thanks to a goal from Jack Lewis.

In Division One, Hereford Lads Club finish their title-winning campaign this Saturday at Worcester Raiders.

Kington Town will have to wait to see if they will be relegated from Division One after finishing second from bottom.

The Yellows did win their final game though, beating rivals Bromyard Town 3-1 thanks to two goals from Ryan Nicholas.
