FORMER Liverpool wonderkid Adam Morgan ended Westfields’ history-making FA Cup adventure.

Westfields chief executive Andy Morris admitted two-goal Morgan was “the difference” as Curzon Ashton sealed a 3-1 win in Monday’s first round replay at Tameside Stadium.

Morgan was the National League North club’s saviour in the original tie in Hereford, cancelling out Craig Jones’ early penalty with an 81st-minute leveller at Allpay Park.

And Morgan, once touted as one of Anfield’s brightest goalscoring prospects, shattered Westfields’ dreams of a live-televised home second-round clash with AFC Wimbledon.

Nick Harrhy grabbed a late consolation goal for Westfields, who attracted national attention for their eye-catching cup exploits.

Morris said: “We played exceptionally well and gave them a match – they knew they had been in a cup tie.

“We got the goal at the end, which we deserved and I thought perhaps we could have had two or three more in the second half because we created a lot of space behind their defence.

“Morgan was the difference and he showed he can put chances away. The clinical finishing was the difference.”

During the 2010/11 season, Morgan netted 18 times in 16 games for Liverpool in the FA Premier Academy League.

The run included Morgan scoring in 12 consecutive matches and led Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler to declare: “As a finisher he is probably one of the best I’ve seen for a long, long time.”

However, after making his senior Liverpool debut as a substitute as a last-minute substitute at Hearts in a Europa League qualifying game in August 2012, Morgan made just two further first-team appearances.

Morgan’s deflected shot broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute against Westfields in front of a healthy 1,070-strong crowd.

He doubled the hosts’ advantage with a fine goal 11 minutes later before Niall Cummings made it 3-0 with 20 minutes to go.

Harrhy netted a last-minute consolation strike for Westfields.
