BUDDING Herefordshire goalkeepers of the future were recently put through their paces by West Bromwich Albion's goalkeeping coach.

Allan Hawkins, who also runs his own goalkeeping academy in Hereford, has already unearthed Josh Griffiths and Ronnie Hollingshead in the past, who are both established at West Brom, as well as Wolverhampton Wanderers prodigy Harry Burgoyne.

“Finding players who want to learn the art of goalkeeping is highly rewarding," said Hawkins.

"We had 16 goalkeepers take part in a fun session which highlights the key principles of goalkeeping.

"We are constantly searching for the next Ben Foster or Joe Hart and the role of the keeper is arguably the most technical position on the pitch and the most enjoyable."

Hawkins coaches goalkeepers from seven years old up to professional level and has had 43 goalkeepers move from his academy to professional clubs.

"West Bromwich Albion always have first look at my local goalkeepers for their academy however with limited places we then use our connections with other clubs

for those players wishing to take their career to the next level.," added Hawkins.
