STOURPORT Swifts manager Mark Phillips believes departing captain Jamie Willets will do well at Hereford.

The towering centre-back joined Pete Beadle's team last week, but despite losing their skipper, Stourport, bounced back in style by knocking out Pegasus Juniors in the FA Vase.

"He is a good player and I think he's got a long way to go in the game," said Phillips.

"He's a really nice lad and has a good attitude and is a good leader.

"Obviously we were sad to see him go but we wish him all the best and I'm sure he'll do really well at Hereford and push on from there.

"He reads the game very well, has a positive mentality and is great in the air.

"All in all, he's a really good centre back and has a very good attitude."

Phillips was pleased with how his side played at Pegasus.

"I thought we dominated the game but there's always a danger of a break," said Phillips.

"We went one, then two up and I think Pegasus had a free header from a corner so if that had gone in it would have changed the game.

"So I tried to emphasise to the players at half-time that it's important to keep your discipline and a positive mentality.

"I thought in the second half, we saw the game out.

"Pegasus had nothing to lose so it was important we came out with the right mentality and I thought we played some nice football."

"The win was important because we lost our first game of the season on Monday and our skipper to Hereford so it was important to come back with a win."
