LADS Club Ladies were handed the Midwest Counties Female League title last Sunday after amazingly winning all of their games.

The city side, who finished third last season, left it late to beat Wyre Forest, with the the winner coming a couple of minutes from the end.

Lads Club's Marcus Jenkins said he hopes the team's success will encourage more women to play football in the county.

"Ladies football in Herefordshire is going through lean times at the moment, with only two teams competing in the Midwest League," he said.

"So this sort of achievement hopefully will encourage other clubs to put forward a ladies team."

Jenkins added that he his team should be proud of their achievements.

"It is truly a team effort with every member playing their part, all equal in this achievement," said Jenkins.

"Turning up to training and games in all weather, playing through injuries and giving us a season to remember."

Wyre Forest welcomed Lads Club on to the pitch with a guard of honour, with the trophy and medals being presented after the game.

But it was Wyre Forest who opened the scoring first and, after seeing Hayley Jones' shot the the cross bar, Lads Club went into the half-time interval 1-0 down.

After a team talk with coach Clive Powis, Lads Club equalised when Emily Lovelock made a brilliant run and popped the ball into the back of the net.

The Hereford side pushed hard and had shots on goal, but Wyre Forest held firm.

But they could do nothing to stop Roxanne Payne headed the ball into the net from Olivia Jenkins to the win the game at the death.

League chairman Eric Birch then presented Lads Club with their trophy.
