A LAST-GASP goal condemned Pegasus Juniors to a cruel 3-2 home defeat against West Midlands (Regional) League Premier Division visitors Willenhall Town at Old School Lane on Saturday.

The Black Country side, beaten by Pegasus in each of their previous four meetings, took the early initiative with an 11th minute goal from Callum Foster, who pounced when the home rearguard were culpable in failing to clear their lines.

Ten minutes later Tom Dawson and Ryan Davies combined for Sam Pearson to hold off a challenge and level the scores on the turn, and Pearson then had an effort from a narrow angle cleared off the line as Pegasus pressed.

Pearson also set up Anthony Robbins to be denied by another goalline clearance and Pegasus paid for those missed opportunities in the 41st minute when Paul Holden looped a header over the outstretched arms of Nathan Phillips from a free-kick.

The second half continued in the same free-flowing vein though it took until the 89th minute before another goal arrived. Lewis Hughes and Chris Mortlock were both involved in the build-up and Jamie Cuthbertson raced into the penalty area to crash an equaliser past Ben Holden.

But the relief of saving the game turned to heartbreak for Pegasus as Willenhall raced upfield for Craig Sudlow to force the ball into the home net from close range.

In Division One Bartestree were beaten 1-0 at home by table-topping St Martins, who lead title-favourites Bromyard Town by two points, having played three more matches.
