NATHANIEL Lewars' goal earned Westfields a point against AFC Wulfrunians in the Midland Premier League.

Lewars struck drove home from 20 yards in the second half which leaves Sean Edwards' men fourth in the table.

Wulfrunians opened the scoring in the sixth minute when Andy Thompson latched onto a misplaced pass from Zac Sirrell to powerfully shoot past Westfields goalkeeper Matt Gwynne.

Westfields almost levelled when Jamie Cuss dragged his effort wide when he was presented with a short-range effort,

Joel Edwards was then stretchered off for the Hereford side with a leg injury, which cut short Westfields' momentum.

Shortly before half-time, Sirrell saw his well-placed header cleared off the line as Wulfrunians went into the break a goal to the good.

The home side should have extended their lead but striker Jamie King shot his effort over the bar from 10 yards out.

That proved costly as Lewars levelled matters to give Westfields the initiative.

An adventurous run by substitute Tom Boyle brought a smart save from Wulfrunians goalkeeper Danny Tipton.

Fields continued to pile pressure on their opponents' goal and nearly went ahead when Carl Morgan smashed his shot over the bar after getting into a good position.

A last-ditch attempt by Wulfrunians to win the game was thwarted by their own goalkeeper when King somehow missed the target from just six yards out.

Westfields are in FA Vase action this Saturday when they face Northern Counties East side Worksop Town.
