Dudley Sports 1 Wellington 1
WELLINGTON grabbed a very late equaliser to earn a point on their return to West Midlands League Premier Division action after a break of more than a month due to the wet weather.
"I don't ever remember such a late equaliser," joked Wellington boss Derek Williams. "I had already shaken the Dudley manager's hand."
Action was mostly confined to midfield in the first half.
"Jamie Yau had a shot but our goalkeeper Matt Eden didn't have a save to make," said Williams.
After half-time, Wellington began to get more of a grip on the game with Paul Jones and Saul Thomas both going close to opening the scoring.
On 70 minutes, however, a long shot deceived Eden and Dudley went a goal up.
Will Burley cleared a shot off the line as the home side sought to increase their advantage but Wellington kept battling away with Gareth Thomas and Will Haines having shots blocked.
Then, with time running out, Ben Fischer turned a defender inside the area with Thomas getting the final touch to snatch the draw.
Bromyard Town also made a return to action but were beaten 2-1 at home by Bewdley Town.
