BURGHILL batsman Alex Hedges has set a new record for the highest number of runs in a Worcestershire County League Division 2 season.

The New Zealander has hit five fifties and six centuries to set a new Division 2 record of 1,180 runs with two league matches remaining.

He has broken the record of 1,140 runs which had been set by former Black Caps star Daniel Flynn while playing for Barnards Green in 2005.

Hedges overpowered Flynn’s league record during his unbeaten 118 which set up a superb 10- wicket home win over Netherton.

He produced a man-ofthe- match display, taking 5-37 in helping to dismiss the Dudley outfit for 233.

Hedges also took 4-60 against table-topping Pedmore on Bank Holiday Monday, but Burghill suffered a threewicket defeat.

Monmouth remain third in the division but are 17 points adrift of second- placed Oldswinford.

Monmouth’s hopes of securing a promotion place suffered a setback when they could only manage a losing draw in a rain-hit match at Coombs Wood.

But 51 from Dan Head and 5-29 from David Teague inspired Monmouth to a 118-run home win over bogey side Feckenham.

Relegation-threatened Colwall have slipped to the bottom of Division 1 despite a winning draw at Droitwich on Monday.

Joe Crichard (49) and Tim Riley (42) led Colwall to 211 all out and then former skipper Mike King (5-45) reduced Droitwich to 170-8.

Colwall bounced back from a 10-wicket defeat to Worcester Nomads two days earlier after they were shot out for just 97.

David Kyte snapped up 7-68 while Eral Anderson (64 not out) and Zahid Saeed (57 not out) also shone in Bromyard’s eight-wicket win at second- bottom Malvern.

Wormelow remain top of Division 3 after beating Avoncroft and then securing a winning draw against Chaddesley Corbett at Kennel Field.

Tom Bevan struck a magnificent 144 not out in Wormelow’s victory over Avoncroft and then hit 69 against Chaddesley.

Captain Tim Boulter blasted 72 from 55 balls in Wormelow’s 243 all out and then Steve Wild took 5-62 in Chaddesley’s 228-9.

Wormelow are seven points clear of secondplaced Kidderminster but Canon Frome’s relegation has been confirmed after defeats to Harborne 3rd and Hewell.
