BURGHILL, Tillington & Weobley claimed the bragging rights as they beat rivals Colwall by four wickets in Worcestershire County League Division One.

The defeat means that Colwall – who finished runners-up last season – have slumped to the bottom of the division after failing to win any of their opening three games.

Colwall crumbled to 167 all out in their 50 overs, with Barney Morgan snapping up four wickets.

But the away side fought back and had Burghill in deep trouble at 46-6.

However, Tim Walsh and Owen Morgan put on a fantastic stand of 125 to see the hosts home in the 37th over.

Colwall begun their innings slowly with openers Nick Brown and Archie Sale adding 43 in 14 overs before the more aggressive Brown was caught and bowled.

Ben Cooke was next out, trapped leg-before for nine, and when the stubborn Sale was finally caught for 17 with the total on 74 in the 24th over, the innings gradually began to unravel.

Skipper Ben Wheeler (27) tried to stem the tide but then James Abel was bowled, while Wheeler, Joe Blight and Matt Morgan were all caught as the rot set in at 138-7.

It quickly became even worse as without addition, Nick Panniers was caught for a useful 26 and Dan Newby was bowled without scoring.

Only a valiant last-wicket stand of 29 from Jon and Michael Gooch took the total to 167.

The same pair then combined to put Burghill in worse trouble with the ball after tea, with Newby also contributing.

It looked like Colwall would claim an unlikely win, but Walsh and Morgan had other ideas, with the pair finishing unbeaten on 63 and 52 respectively.

Eastnor, who face Burghill this Saturday, had Waqas Ahmed to thank as his sublime 134 saw them comfortably beat Bewdley by 80 runs.

Raynoldo Estwick also hit a fine 52 off 56 balls and Joseph Madyembwa 39 off 45 as Eastnor declared on 299-5.

Eastnor then skittled Bewdley out for 219; Mohammed Munir (4-53) the pick of their bowlers.

There were runs galore in Bromyard's Division Two match at Coombs Wood.

It looked like it was going to be a comfortable Coombs Wood win after they posted 310-8, but Bromyard gave it a right go and were only one run short when they had used up their 50 overs.

George Leighton top scored with 126 for Bromyard.

Wormelow also fell just short after losing by one wicket to Enville.

The Herefordshire side were bowled out for 191, but fine bowling from Luke Sparrow (3-18) almost produced an unlikely win.

However, Enville sneaked over the line.

Bartestree & Lugwardine were also involved in a thrilling game against Alvechurch & Hopwood in Division Three.

After being skittled out for just 115, which saw Alvechurch bowler Daniel Wolstencroft take nine wickets, a heavy defeat was on the cards for Bartestree.

But amazingly, they turned it around thanks to Tom Strangward taking 7-42; Bartestree prevailing by just two runs.
