DARYL Mitchell's debut for Brockhampton ended in defeat as the villagers lost by 53 runs to Wolverhampton in their opening Birmingham & District Premier Division game.

Fine batting from Zen Malik and Amritpal Singh ultimately did the damage, with Malik scoring 108 off just 91 balls, while Singh made 76.

Brockhampton were always behind in the run chase and will hope to bounce back this weekend when they host West Bromwich Dartmouth.

Jamie McIlroy snapped up the first wicket for Brockhampton when he got Ben Twohig out for 24 and when Thomas Fell and Aneesh Kapil went, Wolverhampton were 80-3.

But Singh and Malik started to take the game away from Brockhampton.

Wolverhampton eventually posted 287-8, with McIlroy, Mitchell and Dinusha Fernando and Daryl Mitchell sharing the wickets.

Worcestershire player Mitchell was making his debut for Brockhampton, but could only make two off 13 balls when he was put into bat.

In contrast, Fernando made 65, but too many players around him went cheaply.

Some decent batting from Joe Crichard and Dominic Badger at the end added more runs on the board, but Brockhampton never looked like reaching their target.
