BROCKHAMPTON chairman Roy Wargen says it's a real coup to sign Worcestershire cricketer Daryl Mitchell.

The 33-year-old – who has scored more than 10,000 first class runs – has confirmed he will play at least four matches in the Birmingham League Premier Division next season.

"He's probably the best player at Worcestershire next to Moeen Ali and the fact he was captain there means he will be a tremendous asset for us," said Wargen.

"He's a really nice guy and he is still only 33.

"I've also signed Dinusha Fernando, who will be our overseas player.

"You need these people to succeed and help your younger players."

Mitchell – who signed a new four year deal at Worcestershire in December – said he jumped at the opportunity when he was approached.

"They play in an idyllic village location which I like," said Mitchell.

"They've got a good squad and team spirit and will be looking to consolidate in the Premier Division.

"They have done fantastically well in recent years to get to where they are .

"It's just nice to have the opportunity to play club cricket, especially if I'm not doing well for my county.

"I enjoy playing cricket and because I'm no longer captain at Worcestershire, it will probably free up a bit of spare time."
