COLWALL Thirds won the GB Liners Marches League Knockout Cup for the first time after upsetting Kington in the final.

Gary Nicholson's unbeaten 49 and James Febery's 42 helped Colwall to a 29-run win in the Twenty20 format.

Colwall posted 178-5, with Ben Smith taking two wickets for Kington.

The Division One side started strongly when put into bat, with opener Michael Green smashing 50 off just 26 balls.

But the wickets started to tumble and Kington went from 104-3 to 105-6.

Ben Febery ended up snapping up two wickets for Colwall to secure the win at Eastnor.

Earlier, Colwall skittled out Garnons for just 43 to claim a fantastic semi-final win, while Kington overcame Crickhowell.

The day also marked the end of Marches League chairman Jim Sandford's tenure.

Over the course of 25 years, Sandford was the league's fixture secretary and treasurer and became chairman in 2004.

The league marked the occasion by making a presentation to both himself and his wife Eileen, who worked alongside him.
