A FINE century from James Platford helped Luctonians beat rivals Garnons and strengthen their grip at the top of GB Liners Marches League Division One.

Platford made 101 before being caught by Stuart Turpin, while Hamish Light also scored 64.

Luctonians made a competitive 268-5 off their 45 overs, but to their credit, Garnons gave it a right go in their pursuit and came within 16 runs of victory.

Middle-order batsmen Thomas James and Clive Scott both scored half centuries, while Turpin hit 38.

But in the end, it was not enough, with Chris Burke snapping up four wickets for Luctonians.

Elsewhere, Michael Green took 4-27 and finished unbeaten on 57 for Kington in an excellent nine-wicket win over reigning champions Goodrich, while Woolhope overcame Ledbury by eight wickets.

Abergavenny-Crickhowell claimed a winning draw against Glangrwyney.

Division Two matches saw wins for Luctonians 2nds and Colwall 3rds, while Brockhampton 3rds had a winning draw against Almeley.

While in Division Three, Garnons 2nds beat Burghill, Tillington & Weobley 3rds by seven wickets and Eastnor 3rds and Ledbury 2nds claimed winning draws against Moccas and Abergavenny 3rds respectively.

Brockhampton 4ths had an astonishing 277-run win over bottom side Luctonians 3rds in Division Four, while Colwall 4ths, Wormelow 3rds, Strollers 2nds and Talybont-on-Usk were all winners.
