HEREFORDSHIRE are through to the final of the Unicorns Minor Counties Knock-out Trophy after a thrilling two-wicket win over Devon.

Not even the drama of an air ambulance landing on the pitch at Sidmouth to deal with a nearby incident could dampen their day and the county side will now face Staffordshire in the final at Wormsley on Wednesday, August 24.

It is the firtst time Herefordshire have reached the final since 2000 when they beat Cheshire.

Ed Pollock and Liam Gwynne continued their recent fine form with great knocks of 67 and 64 respectively, while David Ball and Charlie Lowen both scored 51.

Devon, featuring Hereford fast bowler Charlie Morris, posted a competitive 282-9 off their 50 overs.

Wicketkeeper Matthew Thompson, who opened the bat for Devon, top scored with 91, while Ben Green also chipped in with 39.

Brockhampton's Jamie McIlroy was Herefordshire's msot successful bowler, taking 3-44, backed by by Ball's 2-62 and Peter Burgoyne's 2-56.

Matt Pardoe's left arm spin was the most economical with just 35 runs off 10 overs.

Pardoe though was soon out when he opened the bat for Herefordshire, but Gwynne and Pollock batted superbly before both departed with the scored on 141. Ball then steadied the ship, while Lowen hit his 51 off 60 balls, which included sour fours and two sixes.

Herefordshire eventually won the match with three balls remaining.
