ASTON Ingham will play in Division Three of the Gloucestershire League after winning 13 of their 14 matches to clinch the Division Four title.

Skipper Andy Bevan led by example, taking 33 wickets, making him joint leading wicket-taker in the division while Jack Carpenter, whose explosive batting brought him three centuries, also took 23 wickets.

Fifteen-year-old James Hamilton, who opened the batting during the second half of the season, totalled 969 runs in all matches.

“With consistency of availability, the season was typified by a great team spirit and, if it wasn’t one player's day, then another would chip in,” said spokesman Colin Leighton.

“We had a hiccup against Witcombe in the first game, but from then on, the team remained unbeaten.”

The 2nd XI, led by Phil Leighton, won 12 of their 16 games, in the Division Two of the KW Bell Forest League, but were just pipped for a promotion spot on the last weekend of fixtures by Ruardean Hill.

Evergreen Dave Parsons led the way on the batting front with two centuries, along with Andy Hamilton, and, in the early part of the season, Luke Ward played some rapid, match-winning innings. And under-15 Dan Smith’s huge strides with bat and ball earned him a slot in the Aston Ingham squad that took on Lashings World XI at Stockings Field.

The midweek XI, skippered by Jack Carpenter, were unbeaten in Division Four and go up as champions to play Division Three cricket in 2014.

Carpenter, Bevan and Tom Parsons were responsibe for some mammoth totals that proved too daunting for many an opposition.

The under-15 side, managed by Andy Hamilton, were runners-up to Newent in the Wellon Cup KO Competition and consistent throughout the season, winning most of their league fixtures.

The U-13 and U-11 leagues sides, managed by Dave Skyrme, Phil and Colin Leighton, in a combined capacity, performed well.

“The club are looking to run an U-9 age group side in 2014, where there will be a recruitment drive,”said Colin Leighton. He added: “We have also been approached by a local Level 2 female cricketer and coach, who is going to introduce a girls team for the 2014 season.”

Any boys and girls, from six upwards, and adults, new or old, who would like to join the club should email Colin Leighton on cl100@ hotmail.co.uk or call him on 07737 796947.
