Ross continued their promotion drive in Division Four of the Worcestershire County League with a crushing seven-wicket success over Cleobury Mortimer.

The hosts found runs hard to come by in the face of some accurate seam bowling by Christiaan Ferreira, who returned 5-8 from a 12.5-over spell.

They were bowled out for just 58 and Sebastian Warwick (32 not out) then led the charge as the south Herefordshire side chased down their target in under 12 overs.

Seamers Tom Bayliss (5-28) and Dinusha Fernando (3-15) also made good use of the damp conditions as Bromyard stepped up their Division One title challenge by bowling Worcester out for just 62.

Fernando then justified his all-rounder credentials with an unbeaten 23 to see the town side home by seven wickets.

Colwall have yet to hit their stride and suffered a 63-run loss at Coombs Wood.

James Nightingale (4-64) and Jonathan Hunter (3-26) were the pick of the Colwall bowlers as the home side reached 212.

In reply, only Max Backhouse, with an unbeaten 54, was able to make much impact as the visitors were dismissed for 149.

It’s tough going, too, for Canon Frome who remain firmly rooted at the foot of the Division Five table after a 23-run defeat at West Malvern.

Nicko Evans (53) and Alec Backhouse (51) had the consolation of completing half-centuries for Frome. Meanwhile in the second Xl competition, there were half-centuries for Burghill & Tillington trio Nick Osborne (87), Ian Graham (85) and Barney Morgan (57) in their side’s winning draw with Himley.

But Jack Donovan’s all-round efforts for Ross — 4-28 and an unbeaten 50 — were to no avail in a defeat by Halesowen 4th.
