PAUL Moloney was the jockey in form at Hereford races with a treble aboard Oscar Sunset, Bay Central and Roseneath.
Moloney struck first in the opening two-mile-six-furlong novices hurdle race when he partnered Oscar Sunset for his retained trainer Evan Williams.
Moloney made his move at the third-last hurdle, seizing the advantage from the oddson favourite Godsmejudge, and a precious lead which he maintained to the line.
Half-an-hour later the Moloney/Williams team were back in the winner's enclosure when Bay Central had swept to a 19-length win in the two-mile-three-furlong handicap chase over his two rivals.
The ex-Irish Bay Central had previously been disappointing but seemed to enjoy the race and this confidence boost could result in further wins.
Moloney commented: “That was good, but the boss' horses are flying at the moment”.
Lambourn trainer Warren Greatrex, interviewed before racing, felt his Oscar Prairie would take a lot of beating in the two-mile-sixfurlong handicap hurdle and, ridden by 10-pound claimer Tom Garner, the confidence was sustained as he scored by a wide margin.
Garner sent his mount to challenge at the third-last hurdle and he took no prisoners as he kept his mount up to his work to win by 28 lengths from Skylancer.
Greatrex said: “The horse had a wind operation over the summer and Tom has given him a good ride except that he has won a bit too far as far as the handicapper is concerned.”
Footballer Michael Owen may be out injured at Old Trafford at present but he had a welcome win when his Khorun, ridden by Richard Johnson, won the six-runner selling hurdle at the track.
To the astonishment of trainer Tim Vaughan, Khorun turned around his disappointing run last week at Hexham and scored by three-quarters of a length from Dots Delight, possibly as a result of the application of a first-time visor.
Following this, the winner was sold at the subsequent auction for 3,000gns.
Trainer John Ferguson advices Sheikh Mohammed on many of his flat-race purchases but he is also training winners in his spare time and he sent out Cotton Mill to win the two-and-ahalf- mile novice hurdle in fine style.
The well-supported 7/2 shot was never really in danger as he cruised up to challenge at the third-last hurdle and was a fluent sixlength winner at the post and has the potential to score again.
