Westside 37 BAI 30
WESTSIDE secured their second West Midlands Division 2 win in a row with success against newly relegated BAI.
Westside, who had anticipated a tightly fought battle, started with GS Debbie Bowdley, GA Kerry Amos, WA Kayleigh Mumford, C Sophie Wright, WD Katie Parkes, GD Kelly Whitehead, GK Steph Snowzell, and managed to find their flow straight away.
Some excellent attacking play by Mumford and Wright, linking up well with Bowdley and Amos, allowed Westside an early lead at quartertime.
In defence, player-ofthe- match Whitehead was able to hold up the experienced BAI GA and that allowed Snowzell to put pressure on the young BAI GS, causing them to make mistakes.
In the second quarter, Westside pulled away with the score at half time being 20–11.
The third quarter saw changes made in defence with Jade Finney coming on at WD, Whitehead going back to GK and Snowzell to GD.
BAI put a lot of pressure on attacking play from Westside all over the court and Westside struggled to find space and made many errors in the centre and goal third.
This put pressure on both the Westside shooters and some key shots were missed.
With Westside losing the third quarter (score 26-19) more changes were made with Natalie Booth replacing Finney at WD and Snowzell and Whitehead switching back.
Westside settled again, now able to find space and maintain focus and concentration.
They forced BAI to make mistakes and were able capitalise on these.
On Saturday, Westside face Willenhall Wanderers.
