FORMER Sheffield Wednesday player Carl Robinson will be rooting for Hereford in Saturday’s FA Cup showdown.

The ex-Wales international, who lives in Hereford, had a loan spell at Hillsborough in 2003.

“Hillsborough is a fantastic stadium and it will be a tough game for Hereford but they have got nothing to lose,” said Robinson.

“I like the under-dogs - and Hereford are massive under-dogs.

“I want Hereford to win. I enjoyed my time at Sheffield Wednesday but I am part of Hereford city.

“Hereford could get a home tie if they can upset Sheffield Wednesday and pull in a big team.

“That would be great for the city, the players and the club, financially.

“There's been lots of shocks in this FA Cup and Hereford have done the hard work in getting past Lincoln and Wycombe.

“If they enjoy the day and play to the best of their ability, they are in with a genuine chance of winning.”

Robinson praised Hereford defender Ryan Green, with whom he played at Wolves and who also had a short spell at Hillsborough before joining Hereford.

“Ryan’s got all the ability in the world and it’s about being consistent.

“There’s no reason why Ryan can’t get himself back into the Welsh squad.

“There are lads in the Welsh squad who don’t have Ryan’s ability.

“They have the desire and the hunger - and that’s what Ryan’s getting now.

“The last time I saw Ryan play he had that desire and hunger back in him - if he can do that consistently then he will get back in.”

Robinson, who now plies his trade in the USA at New York Red Bulls, played for Wolves in an FA Cup semi-final against Arsenal in 1998.

“When I was walking out against Arsenal there was Petit, Viera, Overmars and Bergkamp. It was scary but we deserved to be there,” recalled Robinson.

“ Probably 99 times out of 100 that Arsenal side would have beaten Wolves.

“We thought it would be the one time that we could win.Sadly, that didn’t happen and we lost 1-0.

“But if you go out and do your best and have no regrets, you never know what will happen.”
