HEREFORDSHIRE rowing coach Robin Fletcher has rounded off a memorable year by picking up a national award.

In July, Robin Fletcher coached the Welsh Men’s Junior Rowing Squad to an historic victory at the Home International Regatta in Cork, beating every crew from England, Scotland and Ireland.

This was the first time in more than 50 years that any Welsh rowing squad had won an international team trophy at this event.

And now Wales Rowing, the national governing body for rowing across Wales, has recognised Fletcher's contribution to this outstanding achievement when they awarded him ‘Coach of the Year’.

That was not the only award for Fletcher on the night as he was also part of the ‘Coaching Team of the Year’ and was head coach of the ‘Team of the Year’.

Fletcher began his coaching career at Ross Rowing Club before moving on to Monmouth School as boat house manager and coach.

Three years ago he was approached by the Welsh Rowing International Committee to join their team of coaches, and is now head coach of the Welsh Men’s Junior squad.
