WE now have an interesting replay to look forward to at Lincoln in the FA Cup.

In the third round, everyone ideally wants that ‘dream’ tie but there are two ways of looking at it.

Either you get a dream tie or one that is winnable and that you can get through.

A tie at Wycombe would certainly be winnable but first we have to focus on Lincoln next Tuesday.

Three games in quick succession, like we are going to have against Lincoln, bring their own sorts of problems.

We have seen them; they have seen us at our poorest.

On Saturday, I felt we played reasonably and should have been comfortable winners.

We know, though, that the replay will be tough - their wingers can be dangerous and they will have Delroy Facey coming back in.

We just need to make sure that we keep improving and we will improve because competition for places should mean that no-one can feel they are safe in the side.

We shall hope to get through and move on to the next one.

As well as being a potential distraction, a good cup run can breed confidence among the players – it’s all about how you cope with it.

A tie at Wycombe would certainly not be such a distraction as one against a top Premiership club but the main thing for us is league points – that is where we need to concentrate.

On Saturday, it’s back to the League and Morecambe who have had an indifferent start to the season.

We are at home and we need to start winning some home games and improving our performances. That means we have to stop conceding goals as we will always score because of the way we play.

The defensive errors we have suffered are, of course, a worry and all you can do to eradicate them is just to keep working and concentrating.

People do make mistakes, if you analyse any goal then a mistake is in there somewhere.

We have had some basic errors but they have become few and far between so we will just keep working with the players to make sure that sort of mistake is completely eradicated.

The emergency loan window is closed until after Christmas and we have two new players in.

Joe Heath arrived from Exeter and it was all very quick, arranged at 3.30 on Thursday afternoon. He wanted to come and play some games and he did ever so well last Saturday, producing a great performance in his first game.

That has been an excellent bonus for us.

Matt Lund, who is an up-and-coming player at Stoke, came on and looked very bright and competitive. He looks as if he can be another good addition to the squad.

We also now have players coming back after injury.

James McQuilkin, Janos Kovacs and Guillem Bauza all just need some game-time under their belt.

We will now have some competition for places and that will make everyone aware that their spot in the side is not safe.

Competition should make for better performances as a group and better performances as individuals.
