CARETAKER-boss Jamie Pitman will remain in charge for Hereford United's trip to Northampton on Saturday.

The Bulls sports therapist inspired his 10-man team to a draw with League 2 leaders Port Vale after being placed in temporary charge following the dismissal of Simon Davey.

Chairman David Keyte and vice-chairman Tim Russon have been holding a series of interviews with possible replacements and have drawn up a short list but are not going to rush into making a new appointment.

"Saturday’s performance has given us time to think about the future and take stock of where we are," said chairman David Keyte. "We are delighted at the response from the team and coaching staff and we need to think long and hard over our next step.

"Jamie has done a first-class job in restoring the spirit to the squad and we are happy for him to keep going for Northampton.".

Pitman, who was previously assistant boss at Forest Green Rovers, is relishing the challenge.

"I just want what’s best for Hereford United. The most important thing now is that we carry on from how we played against the league leaders and give it everything we’ve got at Northampton," he said.

“ What happens next depends on how we perform and what results we get. I love my role and work as a physio but I would be crazy to turn my back on a chance to achieve more."
