THE transfer window which closed at 6pm on Tuesday for permanent transfers has not really had a big effect on us.

We were never going to go and buy anybody.

For clubs like ours, the window reopens for loan transfers on September 7 so there is really only a week where you cannot do any business.

At this level, you either take players on loan or who are out of contract so, in that case, the window does not apply anyway.

It has a big effect on Premier League clubs but not so much further down.

It does prevent you from raising money by selling a player but we do not want to sell anyone.

The players we have brought together are all here for the duration so it does not affect us in that way.

So it’s business as usual.

We’re naturally disappointed with the results of the last two games where the performance has not reflected the result in either game.

We are 16th after four games and everyone who looked at the four games before the season started would have said they were really tough.

And that is how it has turned out, results-wise.

In terms of performance, we have been in all of the games, even the 4-0 defeat.

Last Saturday, in the second half there was only one team in it. There were waves of attacks and we just could not get the ball in the back of the net.

It is a concern that teams can come to us, get one chance and score a goal while we had 18 chances and did not score.

That is something that my staff and I have to address and that is what we are doing.

We won our first game and a defender scored and then lost a Carling Cup tie without scoring and people started asking when our strikers are going to score.

But players have to take that responsibility on board – they would not be in the industry if they could not take that pressure.

Strikers always thrive on confidence; you get one goal and then they come rolling in.

We just need to keep believing in the players and that they can produce goals.

The most important thing for them is having that belief from the management and all the staff.

All players have barren spells and, after all, we are only four games into the season.

We’re not 14 games in without anyone scoring a goal so it’s not ringing alarm-bells now although it is something we must be aware of.

Unfortunately, last Saturday, Mathieu Manset and Sam Malsom were out with injury so we could not change any of the strikers to give the lads a bit more breathing space.

That is something we have been trying to address this week and, hopefully, we will have Manset and Malsom back as well for the trip to Burton.

That will give us more competition for places and puts a bit more pressure on the two strikers who played on Saturday to score.
