MONMOUTH have gone top of the Worcestershire County Cricket League Division 2 after a winning draw at home to rivals Burghill & Tillington.
The Welshmen struggled early on against accurate bowling from Mike Pledge (2-37) and limped to 78-4 in Bank Holiday Monday’s top-of-the-table clash.
A 114-run stand between skipper Paul Swingwood (65 not out) and Dan Head (78) lifted Monmouth before Jon Jones blazed 33 not out to take the hosts to 234-5.
Kingsley Morris (38) and David Scott (37) led the reply for Burghill, who were missing their New Zealand all-rounder Alex Hedges.
Aled Jones snapped up 5-36 and the second-placed Hereford club closed their innings on 152-8.
