Hereford Whitecross Men's over-45 squash team failed in their bid to defend the over-45 plate trophy when they made their third consecutive appearance in the National Club Squash Finals at Nottingham Squash Rackets Club.

Whitecross were pitched against British Airways and the match was played in great spirit with the Hereford club going down 2-1.

First on for Hereford was Steve Hill who lost to Alan Boulden.

The British Airways player started nervously but settled down to save several game points in the first before winning 10-8. This gave him the confidence to go on and win the next two games 9-3 9-4.

Next up was Rob Reid who lost 3-0 to ex-Ireland international Mike Houlihan.

With the match over, Tom Burton went on and gained a consolation 3-0 win against a very unorthodox opponent, Barry Gage, winning 3-0 - 9-7-9-4 9-1.
