Hereford Rowing Club's Fun Regatta attracted 16 teams from pubs, clubs and local business to compete over a 500m stretch of water after only three training sessions.

As well as being a great introduction to the sport, with many of the teams going on to to join the club, some of the crews were also raising money for charity and even rowing in fancy dress.

Teams competed in heats over the day plus a few highly entertaining non-qualifying races by those crews keen for another go.

The winning men's team were the Fab Four consisting of Mark Evans, Simon Linton, Jon Mayne, Steve Williams and coached by Jim Williams, coxed by Jordan Williams.

The women's team were the Up Y'Oars consisting of Kirsty Rumsey, Emma Condie, Kelly Stevens and Ellie Teague who were coached by Kev Llewellyn and coxed by Jake Morris.

The winners of the mixed category were Manhattan's Sailors consisting of Gaz Matthews, Stacey McCluskey, Clare Corfield and Cody Foster, coached by Rick Airbright and coxed by Jake Morris.

Crews raising money for charity included the HHL Buoys team (Hereford Housing Ltd) for the Hope House Men’s Homeless Hostel, the HHL Belles (also Hereford Housing Ltd) were raising money for Hereford Women’s Aid and Saxty's who raised money for St Michael's Hospice.

Hereford Rowing Club's official competitive regatta is on Sunday, May 23 - a change from the traditional Bank Holiday Monday date.

The next Learn to Row course starts this week and anyone keen to have a go, or thinking of entering a team in the next fun regatta, should get in touch with subcaptain Paula Ingram on 07977 194462.
