Ross Rowing Club will be celebrating one of their most successful nights at the 2009 Herefordshire Sport’s Awards next week.

The south Herefordshire club will be collecting five top awards at next Wednesday’s presentation ceremony.

Great Britain rower Steve Tuck has won the Junior Male of the Year award.

He is a product of Ross Rowing Club’s junior academy and picked up a gold medal in the GB eight at the European Junior Rowing Championships.

John Price will collect the Service to Sport award after 20 years’ encouraging beginners to take up rowing.

Price has been instrumental in helping more than 100 newcomers experience the sport in Ross.

The club themselves will be picking up accolades for Junior Team, Senior Team and Club of the Year.

Another Ross rower, Rhiannon Jones, is highly commended in the Sportswoman of the Year category.

She coxed the Great Britain adaptive coxed IV to victory at the World Rowing Championships.

The presentation evening is being held in the assembly hall at Hereford’s Royal National College for the Blind.

“It’s a terrific achievement and we are organising a coach to come up, so there will be a large turn-out from the club,” said Ross club captain Ian Howell.

“The Junior Academy and their parents will be coming up, while the senior teams and the bulk of the club will also be there.”
