RUNNERS, cyclists and swimmers will be lining up for a triathlon at a health club near Hereford next month.

The third Wyeathlon is being hosted by Wye Leisure health club in Fownhope on Sunday, September 6.

A 504-metre swim (28 lengths of the pool), will be followed by a 19km cycle ride and then a 4km run down by the River Wye.

Organisers hope to raise funds for St Michael’s Hospice in Hereford and the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, a charity close to the hearts of the Williams family who own Wye Leisure.

Last year’s overall winner was Steve King who completed the event in 54 minutes. Wendy Howells was the first female competitor home in 1:13.

This year’s Wyeathlon starts at 9am and entrants will have staggered start times.

The event is being sponsored by Wye Leisure’s gym manager and chiropractor Mark Morrison and Adie Watts, owner of Hereford Canoe Hire.

An event spokesman said: "After the last two years’ success we are now looking forward to our third year. We are hoping to build on last year's event and make this year bigger and better but, more importantly, raise more funds for our charities.”
