JAMIE Coombes was Hereford Rowing Club’s top performer at the two-day Monmouth Regatta.

He triumphed in the IMI Single Sculls, beating five clubs over the two days to secure his success.

Junior squad member Dan Hart won the J17 single scull event, while the junior pairing of Ed Rees and Charlie Phillips triumphed in the J13 double scull.

The two women’s IM2 coxed 4 crews made it through to the final.

Jen Preedy, Cat Preedy, Marine Faller and Paula Ingram, coxed by Chelsey Kinsey, had earlier won their first race against Evesham.

They faced Hayley Birch, Holly Airbright, Kath Lee-Jones and Charlie Stewart, who coxed by Robin Morris, had been given a bye in the first heat. Both crews were neck-and-neck throughout the 1.5km course but one crew was later disqualified for having crossed into the other crew's water.

On Bank Holiday Monday at Hereford, Hereford Cathedral School put in some excellent performances in the sculling events.

They secured wins in the J15 Coxed Quads, Women’s J16 double sculls, J15 double sculls, Novice single sculls, J17 Single sculls, J16 single sculls and J15 single sculls events.

The only wins for Hereford Rowing Club were the Women’s vet B/C coxed 4 of Helen Phillips, Kay Parker, Clare Fenton and Veronica Preedy coxed by Robin Morris.

They beat a Veterans’ C crew from Ross-On-Wye.

James Ford and Andrew Osbourne boosted the results for the men’s squad with a win in the men’s IM1 Coxless Pairs.

For the juniors, Steven and Thomas Griffiths won the J14 double sculls event, beating competitors from Hereford Cathedral School.
