HEREFORDSHIRE’S Rob Weale has booked his place in the quarter-finals of the Men’s World Indoor Singles Bowls Championship.
Weale, the number 10 seed, defeated Mervyn King in a nail-biting third-round tie yesterday at the Potters Holidays World Indoor Bowls Championships at Hopton-on-Sea.
Weale won through, 2-0, in a third-set tie-break against King, after losing the first set, 6-8, and taking the second, 8-2.
The 2000 champion will now meet either Jonathan Ross or Greg Harlow in the last-eight of the competition at 4pm tomorrow (Friday).
Earlier in the championships, Weale made it to the quarter-finals of the pairs’ event when he teamed up with Welshman Jason Greenslade.
Weale and Greenslade lost in a tie-break to the eventual runners-up, David Gourlay and Billy Jackson.
