KINGTON Town maintained their challenge for the Zzoomm Herefordshire League Premier Division title following a 6-2 victory over Holme Lacy.

The result moved the Mill Street club into second position in the table and within two points of leaders Wellington - but having played three additional matches.

The match was played on the 3G surface at the Herefordshire FA County Ground following the recent spell of wet weather.

Kington Town made a strong start and broke the deadlock on 16 minutes when Jack Gittoes drove towards goal and fired a low shot into the bottom corner of the net from the edge of the penalty area.

Gittoes was causing Holme Lacy problems and the former Westfields forward saw his header come back off the crossbar.

Kington doubled their advantage in the 28th minute courtesy of George Davies' low drive from nearly 30 yards out that flew through a crowd of players and nestled into the bottom corner.

The Yellows extended their lead further six minutes later when Gittoes latched on to a well-timed through ball and lifted the ball over the advancing goalkeeper.

Holme Lacy were back in the game when they reduced the deficit within two minutes of the restart after Toby King fired home inside the penalty area.

Lacy were back in the game after pulling a second goal back three minutes into the second half when King ran on to a through ball before beating the advancing goalkeeper.

The villagers had a great opportunity in draw level in the 52th minute when King was played through on goal but Ben Davies made a brave save before the ball was scrambled behind for a corner.

However, Kington regained their two-goal buffer on the hour mark when Jake Robinson headed home Gittoes' cross from the right edge of the penalty area at the far post.

Lacy were not out of the tie and almost pulled another goal back when Ryan Rowlett struck the upright from a 25 yard free-kick.

However, Gittoes completed his hat-trick in the 77th minute when the forward was on hand to force the ball over the line from a corner that the Lacy defence was unable to clear.

George Andrews concluded the scoring with two minutes remaining on referee Mark Ammonds' watch.

Elsewhere in the Premier Division, a brace from Oliver Desborough helped Hereford Pegasus Reserves come away with a 2-2 draw at Malvern Town Senior Development.

In Division One, goals from David Solway and Harley Turner earned second placed Hereford Pegasus Colts a 2-1 home victory against Leominster Town.

Hereford Lads Club Colts are level on points with their city rivals and were convincing 4-0 winners at Wellington Colts thanks to a hat-trick from Caden Anthony Allport and Ben Badham scored the other.
