WESTFIELDS halted their recent poor run of results with a welcome point when they drew 1-1 away at Mangotsfield United.

Manager Scott Russell brought in four new players who all contributed to the team performance particularly teenage keeper Shay Sherry on loan from Hereford FC and Abergavenny Town trio George Clarke, Jac Evans and Nathan Davies who impressed on their debuts.
Westfields had a good first half and were unfortunate not to go in at the interval ahead as Adam Wakely, Archie Muirhead and Cam Davies all had had good opportunities.

At the other end Sterry in the Westfields’ goal made two brave saves at the feet of Mangotsfield dangerman Will Ashton .

After the break Westfields defender Paul Hurrell headed wide of the goal before Russell’s side were caught pushing forward and against the run of play Mangotsfield took the lead through leading goal scorer Jayden Crosbie who got on the end of a defence splitting pass to beat Sterry with a fine 20-yard drive.

Mangotsfield then had a good spell for 25 minutes and Westfields’ teenage keeper twice made point blank saves to keep his side in the game .

Russell then sent on substitute strikers Ollie Barnes And Sam Griffiths and they began to stretch the home defence.

With the minutes ticking away Westfields were awarded a free-kick and despite keeper punching clear the set piece Archie Muirhead put the bill back in to a crowded goalmouth and Paul Hurrell scored the equaliser with a flying scissors kick.

Mangotsfield raced forward and with almost the last kick of the game Sterry produced a point blank save to secure his side a point.

This Saturday, Westfields' new look team are at home to Roman Glass St George at allpay.park kick off 3pm in Hellenic League Premier Division.
