WITH leaders Ewyas Harold not playing, their five nearest rivals at the top of the Hereford Times Herefordshire League Premier Division all won to close the gap.

After struggling to score goals at the back end of last year, Sutton United, and Derek Craddock in particular, found their shooting boots as they ended up 7-0 winners at Amberley Park against visiting Hinton.

Craddock finished with an outstanding six-goal haul.

The final scoreline only tells part of the story as Hinton played well during the first hour although they were three goals down by this stage. They started well with Pete Lamb and Adam Jewitt both going close, before Craddock rounded off a quick break to put United one up.

Midway through the half, Hinton's Dave Spencer was injured in a heavy tackle, and the game was held up for nearly an hour while an ambulance took him to hospital with a suspected broken ankle.

Sutton extended their lead with goals either side of the break, but the real killer for the visitors happened around the hour mark when Dave Cadwallader was sent off for disputing a penalty award. Sutton scored from the spot kick and went on to add three more goals.

Craddock's six goals, included two from headers, with Ben Chambers claiming the other goal.

After struggling to find their rhythm in the first half, Woofferton improved after the interval to turn a fortuitous single goal half-time lead into a comfortable 4-1 away win over Ledbury Town Reserves.

The Reserves might have held the lead at the break had keeper Dave Cooper and an upright not come to the villagers' rescue. They did score the only goal of the half, but at the wrong end, a defender turning a Will Brookes cross into his own net.

Luke Hicks headed a second goal from a Danny Gower corner within minutes of the restart, and Ben Apperley forced home a third after having his first effort blocked.

Woofferton were in charge in the second half but received a late jolt when the Town side pulled a goal back after a spell of pressure. Chris Breakwell latched on to a ball from Apperley to add a fourth goal in the closing minutes.

Colwall Rangers conceded an early goal at home to Leominster Town, but Jamie Welch scored a hat-trick as they fought back to win 5-2.

Paul Jones' pace caused the Rangers defence some uncomfortable moments and it was his run and cross which led to Aidan Price giving Town an early lead. Colwall went down the other end and Welch clipped the ball over the keeper to level the score.

Five minutes later Dan Herbert climbed well to head the home side in front.

Scott Roberts cut into the box and put Rangers further ahead, but was unfortunately injured by his own player and had to go off. Ashley Griffiths reduced the deficit with a powerful shot from more than 30 yards midway through the second half.

Both sides felt the pace in the closing stages, but it was the young visitors who were struggling more, especially with Welch. Keeper Chris Yarranton got the better of a couple of one-on-one situations with him, but the prolific striker still managed to score twice, one from a rebound after the keeper had kept out Tim Rutherford's original shot.

Lads Club also came from behind to gain a narrow, but deserved 2-1 win in their local derby with Westfields at the County Ground.

The home side looked lively from the start, but Westfields drew first blood with a goal midway through the first half. A long clearance from the Westfields defence was misjudged by the home rearguard and Lukas Jobda ran through to score.

Westfields defended resolutely to protect their lead, with keeper Rory Hollingshead making a number of fine saves. In comparison, Kai Bond at the other end had only one decent save to make.

The game carried on in the same manner after the break. The home side equalised on the hour, Dave Olive feeding Tim Boulter whose pinpoint cross was headed home by Josh Dallow.

Westfields had a player sent off and Dallow produced a turn and curling shot into the top corner to secure the win for the home side.

Pegasus Reserves and Kington Town produced a sluggish performance at Old School Lane, with the visitors eventually running out 2-1 winners, all the goals coming during an improved second half.

The home side started well enough, with Bobby Smith in the Town goal making a fine early save. Ben Corner chipped the ball over the Reserves keeper to put Kington in front after a home defender had headed the ball straight to his feet.Tony Richards poked the ball home during a goalmouth scramble to put them further in front.

Pegasus had made a couple of substitutions between the two goals and the fresh legs pepped up their performance towards the end. They scored once and had a late penalty appeal turned down, but Kington held on.

Bartestree eased themselves a little further away from the relegation struggle when a spectacular, individual, late goal from defender James Clyde earned them a point in a 2-2 draw at home to Bromyard Town Reserves.

He picked the ball up around halfway and, with the Reserves defence back-pedalling, took the ball to the edge of the box. He then unleashed a fierce shot that flew into the back of the net.

After an even first half, when both sides had a good effort tipped over by the opposing keeper, Bromyard had built a winning position before conceding the late equaliser.

Bromyard scored directly from a well-struck free kick on the hour mark and then robbed a defender to regain the lead after the home side had levelled. Jason Cutter came off the bench to score with his first touch for Bartestree.

Wellington Rangers recorded a comfortable 7-1 home win when they entertained bottom-club Fownhope.

Eddie Wells gave them an early lead and then Lee Preece had a shot parried by the keeper. The ball was going over the line for a rare Preece goal but his defensive partner Tom Davies rushed in to get the final touch.

Davies stretched the lead with a header.

Fownhope battled well throughout the game and pulled a goal back, but then cancelled it out when a defender turned a Dave Price cross into his own net to leave the half time score 4-1.

Wells and Robbie Parsons added goals in the second half before Eddie Murphy rounded off a good performance when by completing the scoring.
