WESTFIELDS FC’s co-founder Andrew Morris has received a long service to football award for his commitment and longevity with the Hereford-based club.

The award was presented in the centre circle before their final match of the season against Lads Club on May 20.

Paul Tompkins of The Football Association made the presentation to Morris, with a letter of address, longstanding medal and a 50-year longstanding service award lapel badge.

“I was very honoured to receive an award from the FA,” Morris said.

“To have it presented to me after all we have achieved is a moment of pride.

“After founding the club with a few friends after England’s World Cup win, little could we envisage a club with a beautiful stadium, a competitive men’s team, women’s team and 14 junior sides.

“It is a legacy, but one which still needs developing. I’m still the one putting the nets up at the start of games.”

The letter, addressed to Morris from leader of the FA Council Greg Clarke, said: “Not only have you dedicated your career in football to Westfields FC, but you have also served on the Council for Herefordshire County FA for 35 years, a position you still hold to this day.

“No undertaking has been too small to warrant your attention, and you are valued more than you know. We, at The Football Association, would like to record our appreciation of your wonderful efforts on behalf of football and to offer our congratulations to you on your achievements.”

Morris was nominated for the award by the Herefordshire FA, with praise for founding the club in 1966 and more recently taking Westfields to the first round proper of the FA Cup in 2016/17.

Morris will go into the new season in high spirits after the women’s side secured promotion.
