Herefordshire men's bowlers get their season underway with a home 128-104 defeat over neighbours Mid Wales at Kington Bowling Club.

Best performing rink was Colin Reading (Castle Green), Joe Scamp (Kingsland), John Rosser (Castle Green) and skip Phill Williams (Hereford) who took a 25-15 win.

The game of the day was played by Keith Price (Bulmers), Mansel Havard (Weobley), Tony Stokes (Weoebley) and skip Russell Jones (Leominster) who after ten ends found themselves 3-15 down before scoring 19 shots in reply which took the score to 22-15 and took a 24-21 win.

The only other winning rink consisted of Alex Lowe (Hereford), Colin Bowen (Weobley), Glyn Lloyd (Leominster) and David Holloway (Leominster) who were behind for 14 ends but rallied at the end to come out 19-16 winners.

The Kington rink of Peter Evans, Dick Allford, John Sankey and Terry Holden could not turn home advantage in their favour going down 11-19.

Dave Hall (Bodenham), Hywel Pritchard (Hereford), Alec Tandler (Brimfield) and Glyn Williams (Ross-On-Wye) in a tight game only managed to hold the lead for three ends and pay the price of losing two fours and three which gave their opponents a 13-22 victory.

The final rink consisting of Tom Davies (Bulmers), John Colley (Eastnor), John Wear (Hereford) and Don Pugh (Eastnor) had a terrible start by losing the first 9 ends and they never recovered going down 12-35.
