MATTHEW Harrison produced consistent golf to win the Wilson Cup 36-hole medal competition at Herefordshire GC.

Harrison had nett rounds of 69 and 70 to finish five shots clear of runner-up Elliott Shaw in the trophy for low handicappers.

It was a similar story in the Dilwyn Cup for higher handicappers when Tony House claimed the trophy with two rounds of 69 and was eight shots better than second-placed Martin Shaxted.

Hereford suffered a 6-0 friendly match defeat at Raglan.

Forest Hills players took the first three places in the gross section of Herefordshire's four-ball better-ball Open, but the host club claimed the first three places in the nett competition.

Fifty-four teams took part.

One-handicapper Gregg Morgan had a fine round of a gross 74 to win the July medal at Belmont.

During the competition Kevin Smith had a hole in one.

The same feat was achieved by Seniors captain Mike Ingram on the par-three seventh during the seniors' Kiwi Cup team stableford. It was the second ace of his career.

There was a close finish to the Richard Jordan Cup at Leominster with Mike Morris and Simon Morgan winning with a nett 63, followed by Kevin Green and Joss Ingram, 64, and Terry Morgan and Tim Suff, 65.

Previously, the Leominster course was reduced to 15 holes for two cup competitions due to recent flooding.

Nigel Morris won the Ben Novus Trophy for low handicappers with an impressive nett 53, while past captain Dave Pugh won the Clifford Williams Trophy.

Brian Vaughan won Burghill Valley Seniors' strokeplay championship when he scored 85 to finish two shots clear of runner-up Percy Lively.

Vaughan also produced the best score in the August medal.

Arthur Cartwright scored a superb gross 78 in Ross-on-Wye's junior medal which, playing off 10, he won with 68. Jamie Vinali and Ross Jenkins were hot on his heels with nett 69s.

Ross teams gained double victories by 3-2 margins over Herefordshire GC, the A team away and the B team at home.

Rob Pritchard took 30 Kington members to Pennard on the Gower peninsula for his captain's day out when scores were generally modest on a tough course.

Kington hosted the Acorns Junior Tournament and home club member Ross Moore impressed with a superb gross 69 off the white blocks, A Kington team won and Burghill Valley were runners-up.

The day raised around £500 for Acorns Children's Hospice with more sponsorship to come.

Phil Collins was a convincing winner when 18 members of the Three Counties Society enjoyed their fifth outing of the season at Knowle in Bristol.

Shropshire & Herefordshire County Seniors travelled to Gay Hill, where the course was in excellent condition, and crashed to their fourth successive defeat to an always competitive Worcestershire team.

The morning greensomes were closely fought with four matches decided on the last green before Worcestershire edged ahead 3-2.

The visitors could only muster two wins in the afternoon fourballs and went down 11-6 overall.

Herefordshire's European tour professional David Park finished on par for joint 64th place in the Russian Open in Moscow.

It earned Park 3,590 euros but he has dropped five places to 157th in the Order of Merit.

Park shot rounds of 71, 74, 72 and 71 for 288 in the Russian event which was won by Per-Ulrik Johansson with 265.
