LEOMINSTER Minors under-11s have returned home with some silverware from the inaugural Shrewsbury International Soccer Tournament after winning the Village Outreach Cup.
The tournament featured teams from America, Brazil and Argentina as well as UK national teams and the 1996' competition was won by the Minors team with convincing victories over Mid Wales SP and Bishops Castle on the final day.
The Minors have themselves hosted a seven-a-side tournament for the first time and the event was a big success, attracting almost 300 players from around the county.
"Everyone had a great time, not just playing and supporting but also enjoying some of the other activities and stalls we had available," said Minors secretary Sharon Williams.
"Bridge Street Sports Centre is ideal for this type of event and we had pitches and referees to keep the games coming thick and fast.
"A number of managers told me they hoped we could extend the number of teams participating for next year to make it one of the main tournaments in the county."
