BROMYARD sportsmen pulled out all the stops to enable a county cricket fixture to take place and save disappointment for visiting youngsters.
Herefordshire under-10 were due to entertain their Devon counterparts at Eastnor, but the ground was deemed unplayable after recent floods and, with some of the visitors already on their journey, emergency action was needed.
Bromyard's Queen Elizabeth High School offered the use of their artificial wicket and Bromyard CC their clubhouse and changing facilities, while Bromyard Rugby Club members mowed the outfield and prepared the pitch to start on time.
Devon were delighted by the efforts made to accommodate their visit and also by the outcome of the game - they won by eight wickets.
Herefordshire followed up with games in the Malvern Festival where they started with two games against Isle of Wight, losing by two wickets and then winning by 12 runs, followed by an exciting one-run win over Cardiff & Vale of Glamorgan.
