AFTER scoring 215-8, Kington went on to bowl out visiting Olton and West Warwickshire for a comprehensive 105-run victory - their best result of the season in Division 3 of the Birmingham and District League.

With Wem also getting a good result, Kington stay in the bottom four but, with their formidable batting line-up showing signs of running into form, they can still pull clear of the relegation zone.

They have another seven games still to play with the season ending on September 15.

Ben Stebbings (15), Chris Powell (28) and Ian Massey laid a solid foundation and took the score to 57-1 when the home side batted first after losing the toss.

When Massey fell for 34 to make the score 119-5, the initiative was tilting back towards the visitors.

But Tom Brierley (66) held the innings together and, with useful support from Dharshana Gamage (19) and Ed Symonds (29 no), helped to add a further 100 runs in the closing overs.

Sunil Vykaranum took five wickets for Olton.

Adam Herbert made the initial breakthrough when the visitors batted after tea. Gamage, enjoying his first bowl on a lively Recreation Ground wicket this season, rolled over the top-order, taking three wickets to reduce the visitors to 55-4.

Only two batsmen reached double figures as Dave Exall (2-13) and Owen Price (2-30), plus a run out, set the stage for Gamage to come back and take the final wicket in the 35th over to give him final figures of 4-42.

Kington 2nd were involved in a high-scoring encounter after making the long trek to Olton.

The home side posted a huge total of 281-8 but Kington looked to be well on target when, with Rhys Price making 112, they reached 231-6 with several overs to go.

But then they folded to 237 all out and lost by 44 runs.
