COLWALL gained emph-atic revenge for their only defeat of the season as they continued their serene progress at the top of Division 3 of the Crusader Worcestershire County League.

Visiting Avoncroft, who won their first encounter by 100 runs on the opening day of the season, this time proved no match for the league leaders who cruised to a 10-wicket success.

Avoncroft were able to make little progress against spinner Charlie Griffiths who had figures of 5-8 from 14 overs at one point before completing his 25-over stint with an impressive 7-36.

Avoncroft crawled to 98-9 from their 50 overs but Colwall had few problems in reply.

Nick Panniers (52 not out) and Dave Powell (40 not out) maintained total control as the home side raced to success in 20 overs.

Ross' batsmen were also in form in Division 4 as the South Herefordshire club recorded their highest score of the season in a winning draw against Tenbury Wells.

Seb Warwick (84) got the Ross innings off to a fine start but the real fireworks came later when skipper Andrew Bevan was joined by veteran Alan Marfell.

Bevan romped to his second century of the season, hitting 11 fours and seven sixes from 54 balls in his 108, while Marfell was restrained in comparison, reaching an unbeaten half-century from 40 balls.

Tenbury made a rapid response, racing to 53 before losing their first wicket in the 10th over, but Mark Yarranton's 82 was the only innings of real note as they settled for a losing draw at 259-7.

Canon Frome's Kit Smith, with 73 and 6-48, starred as the villagers defeated Himbleton by 100 runs to boost their chances of keeping out of the bottom two.
