WOOLHOPE took the Mixed Fours title, the final short mat bowls county championship of the season.

Shirley and Becci Cox and Anthony and Dominic Rogers took on defending champions Elaine George, Ian Roe and Pam and Ian Park, who were representing Ross.

Ross established an early lead before Woolhope settled and played their way back into the match.

Woolhope then had a two shot lead going into the last end and ditched the jack to make Ross' task even more difficult.

Although Ross managed to get the shot back, they couldn't get the second one needed to take the match into an extra end and Woolhope took the title on a day when they had been dominant throughout.

They secured their place in the final after seeing off another Ross team, skipped by Les Williams, while Tim Rigden's Weston team were the other semi finalists.

The remaining qualification competitions for the National Championships saw Herefordshire’s places filled for the Triples, Fours and Mixed Fours disciplines.

In the Triples, the competition winners Ian Roe, Pam & Ian Park (Ross) will be joined in the finals by the Woolhope team of John Mills, Shirley and Becci Cox.

The Fours was won by Mike Conway (Aston Ingham), Mark Cinderey (Llangarron), David Millington Jones and Anthony Rogers (Woolhope) and the second place team went to Kate Williams (Ross), John Mills and Shirley and Becci Cox. The county had a single place in the Mixed Fours and that was secured by Dominic Rogers, John Mills, Shirley and Becci Cox.

Rogers will also represent the county in the Under-18s competition, while Mills has qualified in four of the six senior disciplines.
